Using TarpiD, user can easily identify targets of piRNAs or piRNA:gene interactions using (i) piRNA(s) name as query, or (ii) gene(s) symbol as query or (iii) piRNA-gene duo together as a query. The database provides several essential information ranging from piRNA:gene target relationships, their expression pattern in the reported disease or healthy state, cell lines or tissues, target binding sites (wherever available), target binding regions, direct or indirect methods validating the piRNA:gene interactions, type of target regulations by piRNA (positive/negative/unknown), functions played by the piRNA, and literature reference, etc.
As a supporting information, TarpiD provides additional information of each piRNA, such as piRNA sequence, characteristics (genomic context, piRNA cluster, ping-pong signature, expression in other diseases, etc). Further, target genes are hyperlinked to Genbank database enabling to obtain more information on target, such as gene biotype, genomic context, transcript variants, GO processes, function, diseases, etc.
This database contains about 28682 piRNA:gene interactions comprising of 1154 piRNAs and 18071 genes curated from published work reported in 153 cell/tissue types from 9 species.
TarpiD will be updated once in every six months depending on the reports of sizeable number of the piRNA:gene interactions in the literature.
